Seaside Park was once a section of Dover Township (now Toms River Township) until it became part of Berkeley Township in 1875. The population grew slowly until its was renamed Sea Side Park and officially incorporated in 1898. It remained about half its present size until May of 1900 when it absorbed and area north of the borough known as the Berkeley Tract and assumed its present dimensions.
Sometime later a clerk mistakenly wrote the name as Seaside Park, instead of Sea Side Park, and the people liked the two word name well enough to make it official. Covering 1.5 miles of beautiful shoreline along the Atlantic Ocean, Seaside Park is divided into a section in the north with the amusement pier, food vendors and games, and residential areas to the south of the boardwalk. The shore features wide, inviting beach, and dunes and tall grass its entire length.
